Orthotics and Prosthetics: What to Expect

Preferred O & P Services practitioners will answer your questions and offer insight into what wearing an orthotic or prosthetic device will mean.

Preferred O & P Services offers orthotic and prosthetic treatments to patients throughout Washington state.

All cases are unique and Preferred O & P Services works closely with our patients to care for their individual needs while adjusting to their new prosthetic or orthotic device.

Patients begin with an initial consultation at Preferred O & P Services, in which patient needs and desires are evaluated. The available orthotic and prosthetic treatment options are discussed. If you are already using an orthotic device or prosthetic, please bring it with to the appointment.

Preferred-Orthotics-and-Prosthetic-Services-26Casting for the orthotic treatment occurs next during which measurements and impressions will be taken. Impressions may be taken with either plaster or fiberglass and your device will be custom-fitted using a model built from the impression.

Once the device is made, patients are fitted with their new devices and begin training to learn to use them. Multiple fittings will occur to ensure the proper fit for the device and to adjust to physical changes in the patient's body.

Follow-up care is critical when utilizing prosthetics or orthotics. Patients will be seen periodically throughout the life-cycle of the device. Follow-up care will continue with both Preferred O & P Services and the doctor who prescribed orthotic treatment.
