Fred C. Cato, CPO, LPO

 Fred Cato, CPO, passed away August 14, 2014. Fred was the founder of Preferred Orthotic and Prosthetic Services, Inc. Fred graduated in 1978 with a Bachelors Degree in Orthotics and Prosthetics from the University of Washington School of Rehabilitation Medicine. He had been practicing in the Tacoma and Seattle areas since 1979. In 1995, he started Preferred Orthotic and Prosthetic Services, Inc with clinics in Tacoma and Federal Way. Fred was an excellent clinician, providing all levels of prosthetic care, as well as specializing in the orthotic treatment of Scoliosis. Fred treated patients with diverse needs, including pediatric, diabetic, vascular and traumatic situations, and had a loyal following of patients from all over the Pacific Northwest and beyond.

 

Karl W. Entenmann, CPO, LPO, Director

 Karl is a Seattle native and a 1981 graduate of the University of Washington Orthotic and Prosthetic Program. After working a few years in the San Jose area, he returned to Washington and worked at Northwest Prosthetics from 1984 until 1995, when he became a founding partner of Preferred Orthotic and Prosthetic Services, Inc. Karl has run the same clinic in Federal Way since 1988 and has extensive experience in all aspects of orthotic and prosthetic care. Karl is also certified in the Otto Bock C Leg, as well as myoelectric upper extremity prosthetics, and has a special interest in high level spinal cord injury and scoliosis treatment with Boston, Charleston and Providence bracing systems.

Besides his busy clinical schedule, Karl is a clinical faculty member of the Prosthetic and Orthotic Department of the University of Washington School or Rehabilitation Medicine and has served as president of both the Washington Orthotic and Prosthetic Association and the Northwest Chapter of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists. He also served 6 years on the Orthotic and Prosthetic advisory committee for the Washington State Department of Health for Orthotic and Prosthetic Licensing, and is a board member of Mobility Outreach International, an organization that provides Prosthetic, Orthotic and Club Foot care in developing contries. Karl has also volunteered overseas with his most interesting work being at the McKean Rehabilitation Hospital in northern Thailand treating leprosy patients. When not working, Karl enjoys traveling, boating, skiing, and basketball. He is married with 3 grown children and 5 grandchildren.

 

Michael Traub, CP, BOCO, LPO

 Mike joined Preferred O and P in 1995, after a long career in the Orthotic and Prosthetic business. He brings over 35 years of technical and clinical experience to our staff. Mike received his prosthetic training at the Northwestern University Prosthetic and Orthotic Program from 1977 to 1979. Mike has extensive experience in the orthotic treatment of neuro-developmentally deficient children, specializing in inhibitory bracing of small children, as well as all aspects of prosthetic care. Mike is also Otto Bock C Leg certified. When not working and when time permits, Mike enjoys riding his Harley, fishing and boating, and helping his daughter with her passion of horses and playing the piano.

 

Doug Tyler, LP

 Doug received his training at UCLA prosthetics program and worked in the Children’s Amputee Prosthetic Program at UCLA and at the Shriner’s Hospital in Los Angeles from 1984 until 1997 when he moved to Washington State. He has been with Preferred O and P since 1997 and specializes in all aspects of prosthetic care with special interest in upper extremity myoelecric and hip disarticulation prosthetics. His outside interests include scuba diving and flying. He has two children.

 

Janet Weller, COF, CRM

Janet has worked for Preferred O and P since early 1997. She became a Certified Orthotic Fitter / Post Mastectomy Fitter in June of 1997, and has taken many continuing education courses in order to become an American Board Certified Fitter. She enjoys serving the community with her knowledge, experience, family background and tender heart. She also fits soft goods, including ankle, knee, and wrist braces when necessary. Janet also runs the front office in Federal Way, with duties including collections, assisting in billing, data entry, eligibility and benefits of insurance, and referrals. Janet takes pride in making sure that Preferred O and P runs to its best ability. Away from work, Janet enjoys camping and spending time with new husband David and new dog Oliver Benson, a miniature Dachshund.

The CPO, CP, and CO designate American Board Certified Prosthetist, Orthotist or both. COF means American Board Certified Orthotic Fitter (primarily for Mastectomy). BOCO designates Board of Certification in Orthotics (different than ABC certification).
